FIFA 17 Is the Gorgeous New FIFA Game

Soccer is great, but it can a bit impenetrable here in America. I'm neither the first nor in all likelihood the last to say it, but there just aren't that many great or intriguing points of entry: Our teams don't have well-known, legendary rivalries here or abroad. Buy fifa 17 coins and play the game.

our pop culture still seems a bit mystified by it; our players seem impervious to any form of celebrity that isn't imported. The sport is here, but the drama is not. Sports, after all, are just soap operas with more math.

But man, FIFA Soccer 17 is working overtime to hook players who might not otherwise have any reason to care about soccer, and it just might do the trick. Just check out this trailer. The thing is lit.

It's also a huge pivot for the series, adding a full-on cinematic story to play through. Called The Journey, players will take on the role of the fictional Alex Hunter, who comes up out of obscurity to try to become the Premiere League's biggest star. It's very Hoop Dreams, and it looks like a damn fun way to dive into a soccer video game, especially if you've never played before.

(And if you're a FIFA veteran, get excited: FIFA 2017 promises to change the look and feel of the game by changing up what's under the hood, throwing out the old nuts and bolts and replacing them with what publisher EA calls the Frostbite engine. That's the framework used for games like Battlefield and Need For Speed, notable for fueling gorgeous games that also allow for better, more lifelike action.)

Maybe America will continue to quibble for the time being about The Beautiful Game, but the rest of the world is moving on without us every day—so we might as well pick up a video game and figure this stuff out from the privacy of our own homes.

And even if nothing else about the game itself delivers on the promise of this trailer, at least the music is usually pretty dope.
